Glazing Apprentice (Trainee)

Reports To: Team Leader/ General Manager 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Summary: An Apprentice will learn the responsibility of selecting, cutting, installing, replacing  and removing all types of glass by performing the following duties. Once apprenticeship has been  performed and completed the below items will be the duties and responsibilities of this job.  

Duties and Responsibilities: Train under a Certified Flat Glass Technician. Learn to perform  all the following. Other duties may be assigned at any time.  

  1. Reviews orders for glass/mirror dimensions, color and pattern. 
  2. Cuts and handles glass/mirrors in compliance with instructed safety procedures.
  3. Wraps and labels glass/mirrors to prepare for delivery. 
  4. Fills in work orders with required information such as Technician’s name, date and the  time it took to complete job. 
  5. Maintains order and cleanliness of shop and shop entrance so that each business day  begins clean and organized. 
  6. Maintains supplies in delivery/installation vehicles. 
  7. Makes sure the vehicles are clean and ready for work every day. 
  8. Abides by the company’s “Drug Free Workplace” Policy.

Education/Experience: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one two years related experience and/or  training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Language Ability: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write  simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations  to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

Math Ability: 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions,  and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

Reasoning Ability:  

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram  form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and  vibration. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
