Glass and Glazing Technician (Glazier)

Reports To: Location Manager/Project Manager/General Manager 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Local Technician 

Summary: Maintains customer service while performing the following duties. 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  

  1. Reviews orders for glass/mirror dimensions, color and pattern. Fills in work orders with  required information such as Technician’s name, date and the time it took to complete job. 
  2. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine size, shape, color, type, and  thickness of glass, location of framing, installation procedures, and staging and scaffolding  materials required.  
  3. Confer with customers to determine project requirements and to provide cost estimates.  
  4. Measure, cut, fit, install, repair, and replace mirror or glass and glass substitutes, such as  plastic and aluminum, in building interiors or exteriors and in furniture or other products. Grinding  and/or polishing to smooth edges when necessary. 
  5. Cut and attach mounting strips, metal or wood moldings, rubber gaskets, or metal clips to  surfaces in preparation for mirror installation. Secure mirrors in position, using mastic  cement, putty, bolts, or screws. 
  6. Move furniture to clear work sites, and cover floors and furnishings with drop cloths.  
  7. Install pre-assembled metal or wood frameworks for windows or doors to be fitted with  glass panels, using hand tools. Set glass doors into frames, and bolt metal hinges, handles,  locks, and other hardware to attach doors to frames and walls.  
  8. Fasten glass panes into wood sashes or frames with clips, points, or moldings, adding  weather seals or putty around pane edges to seal joints. 
  9. Determine the plumb of the walls or ceilings, using plumb-lines and levels. 
  10. Wraps and labels glass/mirrors to prepare for delivery. Pack spaces between moldings and  glass with glazing compounds, and trim excess material with glazing knives.  
  11. Cut, assemble, fit, and attach metal-framed glass enclosures for showers, bathtubs, display  cases, skylights, solariums, and other structures. 
  1. Maintains order and cleanliness of shop and shop entrance so that each business day begins  clean and organized. 
  2. Maintains supplies in delivery/installation vehicles. Makes sure the vehicles are clean and ready  for work every day. 
  3. Drive trucks to installation sites, and unload mirrors, glass equipment, and tools. Load and arrange  glass and mirrors onto delivery trucks, using suction cups or cranes to lift glass.  
  4. Fabricate and install metal sashes and moldings for glass installation, using aluminum or steel  framing. Assemble, erect, and dismantle scaffolds, rigging, and hoisting equipment. 
  5. Abides by the company’s “Drug Free Workplace Policy”.

Education/Experience: 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or  equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Language Ability: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure  manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers  or employees of organization. 

Math Ability: 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,  circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  

Reasoning Ability:  

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited  standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule  form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The  employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to  work in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

Equipment: 

All hand tools required to perform the required work including drills and screw guns. Tools must be in good working  order, or they are to be replaced at the employee’s expense. “Heavy” power tools such as chop saws and hammer drills  will be provided by CSG and are expected to be respectfully cared for.
